Week One: Falmouth

Falmouth is about an hour and fifteen minutes from home, so it's a really easy day trip. Obviously it would be nicer to stay overnight, but my budget being what it is, I had to do this as a day trip.

First we ate lunch at Laureen's at 170 Main St, Falmouth. I ordered a grilled eggplant sandwich, which was absolutely delicious. I'm vegetarian, and I loved the menu. But the Mediterranean plate was served without enough bread. Having said that, I would still go back in a minute.

But the whole reason for the trip was to get a cupcake!!!

Look at how beautiful these cupcakes are!?! I enjoyed a chocolate chip cupcake with chocolate frosting. The first time I ate one, I was with my mum, she noted that it looked like I was tearing up because they were so good (she was right).

They treat the cupcakes (and therefore, the customer) with real respect. When you select your cupcake, they put it on a platter for you to inspect. We opted to have them there, and they put them on a nice plate, and gave us a little fork. The sales associate showed us how to open the little cup that the cake was in, and we went to work on our cupcakes. Delicious as usual.

Then we wandered over to Woods Hole (alright, we drove). We had a great time wandering around, checking out the water, and then the bridge went up!

So check out the view! I like being stopped for traffic, when the traffic going by is a beautiful sail boat. I didn't mind the 10 minute wait (actually it was probably less than that), because I could just sit and enjoy the surroundings.

And how cool is this? The guy actually has to operate the traffic gate.

All told, this was basically a trip taken just for the purpose of getting cupcakes. But I will be honest, I took the time to enjoy my food and my surroundings, and I think that is what travel is all about.
